When my kids moved out—within a week of each other–life as I’d known it for 22 years came to an abrupt, bone-jarring stop. It felt a lot like running into a brick wall. For all these years there’d been kids and chaos and noise and suddenly there was…silence. Echoing, empty rooms. I wasn’t sure what to do with myself.
But then, into all that unexpected silence, a little voice whispered, “Guess what, Mama? It’s your turn now. What do YOU want to do next?” I stopped, dumbstruck. Like every mom, my kids had figured into every single one of my decisions from the moment of their birth.
And now, I was in charge of my life again.
The concept seemed completely upside down, like driving to your favorite restaurant and finding a shoe store in its place. You mean hubby and I could eat ice cream for dinner or double-dip the salsa and not feel guilty about setting a bad example?
Even more shocking, I could spend hours locked in my office without feeling I was neglecting my children. The idea was as terrifying as it was freeing.
Because it begged the question: How do you want to spend your time?
I grabbed a pencil and started a list, since that’s what I do.
Ramping up my writing efforts came first. I sent two projects off to editors, with a third in the works. I’ve also had the opportunity to do some writing for a mission organization, which has me totally fired up.
Expanding my blog came in a close second. I’ve found I absolutely love, love, love offering encouragement and inspiration to other busy dreamers like myself. Many, many thanks to all of you for the encouragement you’ve given me in return!
I decided I wanted to improve the blog and expand my readership, but had no idea where to start. Weeks of online research convinced me I needed some expert help. (There’s a lot of worthless info on the web!)
I was thrilled when I found a site called: Blogging Your Passion. Bob Lotich and Jonathan Milligan have learned how to expand their life’s passion into a way to make a living–and they’re offering a five-week webinar to teach others to do the same.
I attended an introductory session last week and I am so excited about taking the class. Whether your passion is writing or photography or crafts or finances or a cause—this webinar can help you either start a blog or take it to the next level. This is not some fly-by-night, get-rich scheme—they’ll tell you there is no magic pill. Success involves hard work and time, but they’ll teach you the steps.
The webinar starts tomorrow evening, May 12th at 9:00 p.m. EST and will be every Thursday night for five weeks.

And if you do decide to sign up, put “Connie” in the coupon code and you’ll save $50.00 off the price. (And if you know anyone you think might benefit from this course, please feel free to forward this to them.)
So that’s the next adventure I’m diving into. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes.
What about you? Have you had your own “ah-ha” moment in following your dreams? I’d love to hear about it.
